Tide Beats No. 20 Louisville, Loses 2 Others Over Weekend
Despite notching a 7-6 victory over No. 20 Louisville on Saturday, the Alabama Crimson Tide dropped 2 out of 3 games over the weekend in the DRASH Alabama Baseball Classic at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The Tide lost a 3-1 decision to East Carolina on Friday and then fell to Oral Roberts 3-2 on Sunday, despite entering the ninth inning up 2-1. The win and losses drop the Tide's record to 6-9 overall.
After the loss Sunday, a game which saw the Tide blow a lead in the ninth to a team that was 6-7 at the time, coach Mitch Gaspard had plenty to say about his team's performance for the weekend.
"The story of the game to me is, offensively we continue to struggle," Gaspard said. "We were not aggressive enough, we're taking too many pitches and have too many strikeouts. We've got to get better offensively. That's the area that creates energy. Anytime you aren't hitting, you're making yourself vulnerable in those spots for them to comeback late, like they did today."
Up next for the Tide is a Tuesday night match-up at home against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, who beat the Tide earlier this season in Hattiesburg by a score of 14-2.
