ESPN College Football Awards RecapThe SEC took home 7 awards last night to prove the dominance of the Conference.Coach of the Year went to Les Miles. Miles makes it two years in a row for the SEC to take home the award. Gene Chizik took home the award last year after leading the Tigers to an Undefeated National Championship season. This is Miles first time taking home the award.The Doak Walker Award, given annually to the best running back, went to Alabama's Trent Richardson. Richardson, also a Heisman finalist, led the Tide to an 11-1 regular season record. Richardson had 1583 yards on 263 attempts with 20 touchdowns on his season.The Outland Trophy award goes to the best interior lineman, and this year Alabama's Barrett Jones. Jones, like Richardson, help lead Alabama back to the national championship game.The Chuck Bednarik Award goes to the nation's best defensive player, this year it is Tryann Mathieu. The Honey Badger is also a finalist for the Heisman Trophy on Saturday Night. Honey Badger led LSU to the BSC National Title game with his amazing play throughout the season. This is the second year in a row a LSU player took home the award, both wore #7 Jersey for the Tigers, Patrick Peterson won the award last year for the Tigers.The Jim Thrope Award went to another member of the LSU secondary, Morris Claiborne. Claiborne was acknowledged as the most outstanding defense back in the country. Claiborne had a fantastic year for the tigers totaling 46 tackles, 6 interceptions and 1 touchdown. Claiborne's win is the second in a row for the Tigers and third in as many years for the SEC. Patrick Peterson took home the award in 2010 and Tennessee great Eric Berry walked away with it in 2009.The Frank Broyles award was given to LSU's John Chavis for top assistant coach in the country. This is Chavis's first time to win the award, who is a long time assistant coach in the SEC. Chavis spent the first part of his career at Tennessee where he helped led the Vols to two SEC championships and one National Championship in 1998. Chavis has taken LSU to the same level he had the Vols playing in their prime. This also makes three in a row for the SEC, Auburn's Gus Malzhan won the award in 2010, and Kirby Smart of Alabama in 2009. The best award given was the Disney Spirit Award. The awarded is given to the most inspirational team or player from the previous year. The award was given to the Alabama Crimson Tide and was accepted by long snapper Carson Tinker. In April, a massive F4 tornado hit the town and campus of Tuscaloosa, the result was devastating. Carson Tinker, a junior who lost his girlfriend in the storm, was interviewed on stage after accepting the award made for a very emotional moment. He stood strong, kept his composure, and made one of the greatest moments in the shows history. It was so much of an inspirational moment that Russell Shepard from LSU tweeted "Watching this segment I look at Bama in a different light.. I'm proud of you boys lets make this game Historic ... Geaux Tigers. #RollTide." This story alone shows you the greatness of the SEC.
