Life on the road doesn't seem to be getting any easier for the University of Kentucky. Kentucky (17-1, 3-0 SEC) rolled into Knoxville Saturday morning and squeaked out 65-62 win over the Tennessee Vols (8-9, 1-2 SEC).
The Vols led for much of this game and held a 34-28 halftime lead after an inspired effort from Jarnell Stokes. Stokes, who chose to graduate early from High School, was seeing his first action of the year. We didn't know a whole lot about Stokes entering the game, but we now know that he has only practiced four times, wears a size twenty shoe, and he is the real deal. Stokes finished with a very workman like 9 pts. and 4 rebs.
After falling behind by as many as 8 in the second half the Cats looked to super freshman Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Davis and Kidd-Gilchrist led a furious second half rally that would put the Cats up 62-54 with 13 seconds remaining as the Cats hold on in Knoxville 65-62.
Kentucky was led by Anthony Davis with 18 pts. 8 reb. 4blks. 2stl. Kidd-Gilchrist added 15pts. and 11 reb. Tennessee was led by Jerome Maymon with 15 pts. and 10 reb. Up next for the Cats will be Arkansas in Rupp Arena Tuesday Jan. 17 at 9:00pm.
