Day 11 of the 12 days of Christmas!

On the eleventh day of Christmas my true love sent to me; 11 Wins for the Cocks, 10 Cowbells Ringing, 9 National Championships for Pat Summitt, 8 bowl wins, 7 Happy Coaches, 6 in a Row, 5 NCAA Tournament Bids, 4 National Championships for LSU, 3 Bowl wins for Vandy, 2 New Teams, and One Rematch

The 2011 season has been one if historic proportions for the South Carolina Gamecocks. Steve Spurrier in his seventh season with Gamecock’s, has finally started to see the results he was paid for in 2005. Spurrier has a 54-35 record at South Carolina, and has had two record season’s in a row for the Gamecocks. The 2010 Gamecocks won the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division for the first time since the school joined the conference in 1992. Spurrier is now looking to get that elusive eleventh win for the Gamecocks. To get this win it will come at the expense of the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers. This win will have to be the first for the Gamecocks against Nebraska. South Carolina has lost the three previous meetings with the last in the 1987 season where they concluded a home and home series with the Cornhuskers. Spurrier has yet to beat the Cornhuskers in his career as well; getting thumped by the Cornhuskers in the 1996 Fiesta Bowl 66-24, while at the University of Florida.

So with the negative out of the way, let’s discuss why the Gamecocks will beat the Cornhuskers on January 2, 2012 in the Capitol One Bowl. The truth is, this is not the same Nebraska team that has a storied past. This team is very talented, but they are not back to the old days of the “blackshirts”. The second reason is that the Gamecocks defense is a top ten unit, and even without Ellis Johnson calling the plays, expect the Gamecocks to dominate on the defense. Lastly, the Gamecocks have been through a lot with the quarterback position this season, and once Spurrier got rid of the trash Santa decided to put the Gamecocks on the nice list. So, Santa plans to make it a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year for the Gamecocks, and gift them with their historic eleventh win of the season and first over the Cornhuskers.
