Senior forward JaMychal Green and sophomore guard Trevor Releford were both named to the All-SEC second team by the league's head coaches for the 2011-2012 basketball season. It is the third such honor for Green and the second for Releford.
Green earned the honor after leading the Tide this season with 13.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game from his power forward position. Green, a Montgomery native, was a first team All-SEC selection during his junior season after having been named to the SEC All-Freshmen team during his first year at the Capstone. This season's honor is especially impressive for Green when you factor in that he missed 4 games due to suspension before being re-instated by coach Anthony Grant prior to last Wednesday's home finale against Auburn.
Releford was second on the team this season in scoring with 12 points per game while also averaging 3 assists per game while running the point for the Tide offense. While Releford provided a huge boost for the Tide offensively, it was also his defensive leadership that helped Alabama to their 20-10 record overall while going 9-7 in conference play. The Kansas City native averaged a league leading 2.1 steals per contest en-route to earning his second career postseason honor. Releford was named to last season's SEC All-Freshmen squad for the Tide.
Fifth seeded Alabama opens SEC Tournament play Thursday afternoon in New Orleans against the twelth seed South Carolina Gamecocks. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30 pm CT with the game airing on the SEC Network.
