Shortly after Maryland prep WR Stefon Diggs left another sour taste in the mouths of Orange and Blue faithful, Kytra Hunter reminded us all why it’s still GREAT to be Gator. Led by her mark of 9.975 on Floor Exercise, Florida defeated the LSU Tigers 197.850 – 196.850 in the Gators’ 6th annual Link to Pink gymnastics meet. Both scores are season highs for their respective squads and Florida set the new national high for 2012.

The Gators swept all four disciplines, including four 9.900 scores on Uneven Bars by Ashanée Dickerson, Marissa King, Mackenzie Caquatto, and Alaina Johnson.  Johnson took the vault title (9.950) and Hunter received the highest marks on Balance Beam and Floor Exercise (9.925, 9.975). Dickerson won the All-Around title with a score of 39.600.

The meet wasn’t without slight controversy, as the Tigers placed an inquiry about redshirt sophomore Kaleigh Dickson’s score on Floor Exercise. LSU was successful with their appeal and Dickson was credited back with 0.05 points.

An O’Connell Center crowd of 8,112 was on hand as the Gators continued a tradition that began in 2007 to honor breast cancer victims, survivors, and their families. Local businesses promoted the event all week, lending their store fronts to signs and painted ribbons sponsoring the meet and several volunteers were placed throughout the concourse, accepting donations and pledge forms. Guests also received a special commemorative “Link to Pink” t-shirt, effectively “pinking-out” the venue.
