We warned you about this winning phenomenon that was about to sweep over SECJams on Mondays. There are a lot of factors we consider before giving out this award each week. They include the following; magnitude of the story, the impact on the community, the impact to the university, and most importantly did the program, university, or person WIN.
This week’s WINNING will go to the University of Florida Men’s Basketball Team and the University of Kentucky Men’s Basketball Team. Since, starting SEC play with a loss to Tennessee in Knoxville, The Gators have rolled off seven straight victories. The last came at home on Saturday 2/4/12 against the Vanderbilt Commodores 73-65. The Cats are the number one team in the country and have won fifteen straight since their only loss of the season to the Indiana Hoosiers. On Tuesday February 7th at 7:00 PM in Lexington Kentucky something will have to give between these two teams.
Florida has won seven straight including a win over ranked Mississippi State, since their last loss to Tennessee and a very good Vanderbilt team. In the last seven games the Gators have averaged 72.14 points per game and only allowed 60.71 points per game. The Gators winning streak only included two road games, and the team has struggled a bit on the road although still yet to be tested since their last loss to Tennessee in Knoxville.
Kentucky is on a roll and taking everything down in their path. Since losing to Indiana they have won fifteen straight that includes a win over in-state rival Louisville and Tennessee. The Cats have yet to be really tested since the start of SEC league play averaging 73.4 points per game and only allowing 55.89 points per game. However, they should be tested Tuesday against the Gators at home, and then on Saturday at Vanderbilt.
Two teams, two winning streaks, and one goal to win the SEC come to the forefront on Tuesday Night in Lexington, Kentucky on ESPN. The Game will match the #1 team in the country the Kentucky Wildcats against the #11 team in the country the Florida Gators. It is the first marquee matchup for the SEC this season in league play. So on Tuesday night all SEC basketball fans will be winning to watch this battle.
