One of the biggest knocks on the Alabama Crimson Tide's NCAA Tournament resume has been their 56-54 loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks back in late January. Well, fortunately for the Tide, they have a huge opportunity today to avenge that loss and once and for all lock down their berth in the tourney. The fifth seeded Tide is set to face the twelfth seeded Gamecocks today at 2:30 pm CT in New Orleans at the New Orleans Arena. SEC Network will broadcast the game.
Alabama, who finished the regular season with a 20-10 record overall and a 9-7 record in conference play, comes in to conference play riding a wave of momentum. The Tide has won 7 of their last 10 games and 4 of their last 5. Coach Anthony Grant's squad is primed and ready to try to make a run at the tournament title.
"We're excited to be here in the city of New Orleans and looking forward to this year's SEC Tournament," Grant said. "I think for our team, having a chance to compete for a championship is something that we've talked a great deal about and are looking forward to the challenge that this year's tournament will bring."
Alabama is led by senior forward JaMychal Green, who averages 13.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Sophomore Trevor Releford averages 12 points and 3 assists a game from his point guard position, while also pulling down 2 steals a contest. Both players were named to the All-SEC second team this week by the league's coaches. Also look for the Tide to get a big contribution from freshman guard Levi Randolph, who led the Tide with 12 points in the loss to the Gamecocks, who enter this game with a 10-20 overall record after going 2-14 in the SEC. Randolph has started every game this season for the Tide, the only player to do so.
